Flight Dashboard

This section covers the flight dashboard, also known as the 'six pack'.

This is the airspeed indicator.
✈︎ green is the normal operating range
✈︎ yellow is the caution range
✈︎ red is the 'never exceed' speed

This is the altitude indicator.
✈︎ 'blue sky, brown ground'
✈︎ turn increments in 10°

This is the altimeter.
✈︎ measures height above mean sea level
✈︎ pressure sensitive
✈︎ knob is used to adjust altitude to current elevation

This is the vertical speed indicator.
✈︎ measures rate of climb or descent in 100 feet per minute increments

This is the directional gyro.
✈︎ gives a readout of the current heading that the pilot is holding

This is the turn coordinator.
✈︎ the left and right markings below wings level indicate 15° of bank (standard rate turn)
✈︎ if 15° bank turn is held for 2 minutes, a 360° turn will be completed
✈︎ ball indicates the coordination of flight
✈︎ if it is between the two lines (cage), you are in coordinated flight

Flight Controls

This section covers the controls during flight.

Yoke:
✈︎ used for turning (rowing) the airplane left and right
✈︎ used for climbing (nose going up) and pitching (nose going down) by pulling and pushing on the yoke

Rudder Pedals:
✈︎ steer the nose wheel to turn the aircraft (mainly on the ground)
✈︎ push forward on the left to steer left and on the right to steer right
✈︎ press down on the pedals to brake (left and right)

Throttle and Mixture:
✈︎ add power by pushing down on the throttle (all the way = max thrust)
✈︎ fuel-air mixture at full rich for takeoff and landing
✈︎ adjust mixture to maximise fuel efficiency while flying (cruising altitude)

Wing Flaps:
✈︎ increase rate of descent without increasing air speed (used mostly in landing)
✈︎ total 30° of flaps (3 flaps total)
✈︎ put flaps in operation at 85 knots and below
